Howdy to all you fine folks out here surfin' the Progressive Blue today! Now that the longest election season in American history is over, it's time to get back to some basics, and keepin' and eye on those shifty Congress Critters is necessary. So welcome to the Critter Watch! We do it because, of course, we all know that we have to keep a close eye on those Congress Critters of ours; you never know what they'll vote forsellauction off give away next...

The first order of business is to give you the two links to everything Congress, both of which are excellent sources of information:
The first link is for The Library of Congress, affectionately called THOMAS after Thomas Jefferson. Here you can look up just about anything that Congress has done (even previous Congresses.)
The second link is to the GPO Access site regarding Legislative Branch Resources. This page has quick links to many Legislative documents, including Rules, Procedures, Calendars, Reports, etc...
However, since this week is inauguration and a holiday (and a travel week for me), the Critter watch will return next week when they're all done with their hangovers and start actually doing the people's business (with the exception of the Bailout Bill part deux, which they had a chance to turn down last week, but didn't...)

In this week's Critter Watch: Well, as expected, they didn't do a whole lot of anything past the formalities of a new Congress, but the festival of Roland Burris continued, and there was a notable hearing not about appointments. Also, a couple of good bills passed the House and the Senate had some cloture. ;>

In this week's Critter Watch: Not much this week except a brief introduction to the D-newbies and a couple of other notes on what to expect this week (hint: a lot of bloviating and not much actual work; oh and you'll hear the word "economy" a LOT...)

In this week's Critter Watch: Seems that they are a bit slow getting back to work from their very long and lovely 5 and a half week vacation; the House has absolutely nothing up on their schedule at all (clearly my tax dollars hard at work...) and the Senate has barely anything scheduled at all.
What little info is out there is below the jump...
Well folks, I had at least hoped to have some Republican Convention stuff for you to watch for, but apparently, we're not sure if there's going to even be a convention now. Not that anyone was really going to it anyways, but I digress...

Next week, the Critters return to the Hill (can you believe it?) so Critter Watch will have a primer about what's on their plate now that they are finally going to work again! (And I use the term "work" loosely...)

There are very few things happening (with the exception of the idiot House Republican stunt) since the Critters are on vacation, so we won't have the regular Watch this week. Next week, while the Critter Watch may be short, it will have some kind of substance, even if it is just convention stuff.

In this week's Critter Watch: The Republican Critters can't seem to get far enough away from their convention in Minneapolis (is it the restroom thing?); The House Republicans and their vacation stunt (better than having to talk to their constituents in this election year I guess...); The Democratic Critters are about to flip on offshore oil drilling (yep, unfortunately, you heard me right...); The big House Impeachment Tease goes on; and last but not least, an Iran story that apparently wasn't fit to print.
There is very little in the way of reporting on them. However...
There are a few things happening, one that I just found out about late last night and one two other ongoing, so next week, while the Critter Watch may be short, it will have substance.

In this week's Critter Watch: the House passes the Paycheck Fairness Act; the Senate passes the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2008; the College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2007 and the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act were cleared for the president; and the Republicans in the House made quite a stink upon adjournment last Friday - it's quite the story...
Please forgive me dear EENR readers. I have finals all this week and so Critter Watch will be preempted by them. (The Senate did work on Saturday though, which was noteworthy...)
Critter Watch will start being regular again next Monday morning at 1130am eastern time.
So, see you next week, Same Bat Time; same Bat Channel...

Lots of things covered in this week's Critter Watch: their daring (feh...) override of W's Medicare bill veto; the reauth of the HIV/AIDS bill; the House's failure to pass a program directive for back up paper ballots for elections; Big Oil's first drilling victory; and the stunning spinelessness regarding any impeachment hearings.
