Democrats May Use Muscle on Public Option

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jun 22, 2009 at 14:22:45 PM EDT

(we can hope...  :D - promoted by poligirl)

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

A refreshing story has emerged today. It seems as if some Democrats are becoming frustrated with "reaching out" to Republicans on real healthcare reform and may finally use the muscle provided them by the voters to force real reform. They seem to be drawing a line in the sand over a public option, which is desperately needed as part of any solution.

Did you Vote for Change?

for Accountability; for leveling the playing field; for National Health Care?

Well, your vote apparently doesn't carry as much weight as it use to.

Here's one of the main reasons why:

U.S. Democracy Under Siege -- Senate Debate Excerpts
Excerpts from the Congressional Record of the October 14, 1999 Senate debate.

The following is a tabulation, for clarity, of the figures cited by Mr. Feingold:
- 1980 1992 1996
Total soft money contributions to parties ($millions) under 20 86 about 250
# of donors giving over $200,000 - 52 219
# of donors giving over $300,000 - 20 120
# of donors giving over $400,000 - 13 79
# of donors giving over $500,000 - 9 50
# of companies giving over $150,000 to each of the political parties ("double givers") - 7 43

OR-Sen Video/Photoblog: Democratic Leaders Unite for Merkley!

by: sarahlane

Fri Oct 31, 2008 at 13:13:47 PM EDT

(go Jeff Merkley - our Progressive Blue endorsed candidate for the OR-Sen! - promoted by poligirl)

Oregon Senate candidate Jeff Merkley jumped into the Senate race back in August of 2007. The outpouring of support for Jeff has been nothing short of amazing. Oregon Democratic leaders like former Governor Barbara Roberts, Senator Ron Wyden, Representative Earl Blumenauer, and Representative Peter Defazio have been incredibly hardworking campaigners for Merkley. That's not all, Democratic leaders from all across the country have been doing what they can to send Merkley, an accomplished progressive legislator, to the U.S. Senate. With just five days left until election day, I want to pay homage to all the great Democrats who have given energy to our campaign to put this nation back on track....

(go Jeff Merkley - our Progressive Blue endorsed candidate for the OR-Sen! - promoted by poligirl)

Senator Feingold traveled all the way to Oregon today to campaign for Oregon Senate candidate Jeff Merkley. Feingold spent the day in Portland, Oregon and then headed out to Eugene, Oregon to hold a rally for Merkley at the University of Oregon. Feingold was joined by none other than Rep. Peter Defazio and Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy. Follow me below the fold to find out more about today's event....

A Thank You to Russ Feingold

by: RDemocrat

(go Heather Ryan - our EENR endorsed candidate for the KY-01! - promoted by poligirl)

As many of you may know, grassroots Democrats are fighting hard to retake our district in Kentucky's First Congressional District. It was taken with Exxon Ed Whitfield's "Contract with America" which devolved into a "Culture of Corruption" after generations of Democrat control, and will be taken back for our party again one day soon. No matter what the outcome of any election, our solemn oath is that we will all continue the fight for what we believe in.

How the Battle was Lost

by: RDemocrat

Wed Jun 25, 2008 at 00:45:14 AM EDT

(more on Congress - and go Heather - our EENR endorsed candidate! - promoted by poligirl)

One thing Progressives have constantly been up in arms about since we helped the Democrats win back Congress in 2006 is the FISA fight. Many of us think that this bill was completely unneccesary, and that it was a bad idea. It wasn't that we needed new, broad ranging powers for the Federal Government to keep us safe, we just needed a competent administration in place to use laws already in place to protect us. That is what failed us on that terrible day of 9-11-01.

Merkley is a Progressive Patriot!

by: sarahlane

Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 17:24:08 PM EDT

Yesterday Russ Feingold's Progressive Patriots Fund announced a Senate candidate contest to choose the next Progressive Patriot. The winner receives $5,000 and is honored as the next Progressive Patriot. There are plenty of great Senate candidates running this year, but I want to take a minute and tell you why I believe you should vote for OR-Sen candidate Jeff Merkley as the next Progressive Patriot.

One More Day to Vote!

by: GARoach

Wed May 14, 2008 at 01:43:08 AM EDT

Cross-posted from OH-16: John Boccieri for U.S. Congress

Friends and Supporters,

We've had a great response from our friends and supporters so far, but tomorrow is the last to vote in Senator Russ Feingold's Progressive Patriots Fund's "Pick A Patriot"!

Major Boccieri is one of only ten Congressional candidates selected for the Pick a Patriot competition.

Remember, winning this competition means that John's campaign could receive a $5,000 contribution from The Progressive Patriots Fund.

So, please, if you haven't already, take a minute to vote for John on the Progressive Patriots Fund's "Pick a Progressive Patriot" site. If you voted earlier this week, send a note to your friends and family - ask them to cast their vote too.

The Progressive Patriots Fund is the leadership committee set-up by Senator Russ Feingold to promote a progressive reform agenda, and to support Democratic candidates across the country.

Thanks again for supporting Major Boccieri in the Progressive Patriot competition.

Ian Walton, Campaign Manager
Boccieri for Congress

These are the latest RESULTS!
