Indiana voter i.d. law

Got ID?

by: sarahlane

It's primary day in Indiana and folks are being turned away from the polls because they don't have a state issued photo id. From veterans to nuns, these Indiana residents are not being allowed to vote because of the new voter i.d. law in Indiana held up by the Supreme Court last week.

In South Bend Indiana, 12 nuns were turned away from the polls today because they either had expired passports or did not have a current photo i.d. Most of the women were in their 80's and 90's and did not drive.

A veteran named Russell Baughman who had served in three conflicts was turned away from the polls in the March special election. He had his voter registration card, his expired driver's license and his veterans affairs card. It wasn't good enough.

A student at St. Mary's college did not a chance to vote for the first time in her life because she only had her college photo i.d. I'm glad we're making her first voting experience such a joy.

I'm sure the Republicans who continually try to suppress the vote are happy. Job well done.
