I have to admit to being more than a little disconnected since January; life, a new and hectic job, and so many people putting words and expectations into and onto the new Administration without looking at what was actually said or not during the campaign. The life and job are all good; for an old political dog like myself, the politics have been a little too deja vu. After 4 months of increased disinterest, I'm thinking maybe it's time to come out of this funk.
So, when Darcy Burner took the Executive Director position at the new ProgressiveCongress.org, I thought "it's only a matter of time before she starts connecting people to the folks on the Hill." And sure enough, that's exactly what she has planned. Follow me below to find out how and when, and why I think this could be the start of something really good.
There are a number of candidates this cycle that would be considered netroots favorites. However, perhaps the most beloved by all of the Congressional Candidates is Darcy Burner running for Congress in Washington 08.
Dave Reichert currently represents this district, one of the most leaning Democratic congressional districts held by a Republican. Reichert narrowly beat Burner in 2006 and the rematch became one of the most expensive races in the country.

Whoo Hoo!!!
After numerous polls showing Darcy trailing David Reichert-R by 5 points or so, there finally is a Poll showing her ahead by 5 Points. Hopefully momentum is on Darcy's side. Please consider throwing some love Darcy's way through our Act Blue Page Link.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today released a new Bennett, Petts & Normington poll that shows Democrat Darcy Burner leading Republican Congressman Dave Reichert by 5 percent. In the initial head-to-head in the race for Washington State's 8th congressional district, Burner leads Reichert 49 to 44 percent. Conducted October 8-9, the poll surveyed 400 likely voters and has a 4.9 percent margin of error.
Voters believe Reichert has not gotten much done in Congress and has sided time and again with President George Bush. More voters believe Burner rather than Reichert shares their values and will try to bring change to Washington.
"Darcy Burner's campaign for change is resonating with families who have had enough of Congressman Dave Reichert's support for George Bush's failed economic policies," said Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman Yoni Cohen. "Reichert was a good sheriff but is ineffective in Congress, rubber stamping Bush's war in Iraq and Bush's effort to privatize Social Security and risk seniors' retirement benefits in the stock market. Burner is running to change Washington and provide tax relief to Washington State's middle class families."

Today, the great State of Washington has held their Primaries for State & Federal Offices. This includes our Endorsed Candidate, Darcy Burner in WA-08, who has won overwhelmingly in the Democratic Race to face-off once again with Reichert-R
In another closely watched race, Republican Congressman Dave Reichert and Democratic challenger Darcy Burner advanced to the general election in the 8th District of Seattle's eastern suburbs. It will be a rematch of their 2006 contest.
"The results tonight are really fantastic," Burner said. "The voters in this district are telling us that they want to change the direction of our country, so let's do everything we can to give them what they want come November."
Today is primary day in the great state of Washington, and one of our endorsed candidates is on the ballot.
Darcy Burner is everything we could want in a candidate: progressive, committed to bold and transformative change, curious, intelligent, the next generation of Congressional leaders.
(Yay for our EENR endorsed candidates! - promoted by poligirl)
We have changed the rules a little for this next The Progressive Electorate Contest. We are voting from a list of 9 to select 3. Or you can write someone in as well.
Four of our candidates are EENR blog endorsed candidates, a true testament to where we look for guidance.
Charlie Brown - CA 04
Heather Ryan - KY 01
Darcy Burner - WA 08
and Jeff Merkley - OR - Sen
Come support these folks and let others know. I will continue to spread the good word and cheer about EENR.
(If you can, please help Darcy - our EENR endorsed candidate - in this time of great need... - promoted by poligirl)
>>> Update is in the comments. <<<
I am sure you all have heard by now, that Darcy Burner lost her home and possessions in a tragic house fire. It could have been much worse, since it started in her childs bedroom due to a faulty lamp.
Open Left reported last night that Darcy Burner's house was in a fire and she lost most of her possessions. Here's the link from the report by the Seattle Times.
Darcy is one of EENR's endorsed downtickets, in her case, for the WA-08 district.
Yep, you read the title right. Republican incumbent Dave Reichert who currently represents WA-09 congressional district is repeating a disgusting joke about Senator Hillary Clinton. Here's a snippet from the Tacoma News Tribune:
Right now, U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert is up. He repeated a joke I first heard him tell at the Pierce County Republicans' Lincoln Day breakfast earlier this year. It involves an airplane that's going to crash, one fewer parachute than passengers and, ultimately, Hillary Clinton dying.
Do you think it's appropriate for a sitting Congressman to make a joke about the death of a democratic leader? Yeah, that's what I thought.
