(or if you prefer, some lovely snarkiness for you morning instead... :D - promoted by poligirl)
The RNC is having a contest to encourage their base to talk about "a cause greater than themselves." This is confusing, because in the mind of the conservative Republican base, there is no such thing as a cause greater than themselves.
We all know how much the GOP likes distorting patriotism. Maybe if I take a patriotic song and rework the lyrics to fit the upcoming Republican convention in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the party will use it.
Here is my entry.
Proud To Be A Republican
(Press play if you want to sing along)
When George W. Bush was re - elected, you know I started to dance
It was almost as exciting, as when I took my last wide stance
He's been our greatest president, how can anyone deny this?
It really sucks that reality has a liberal bias
And I'm proud to be a Republican, there is no cause greater than me
Don't forget that we sent men to die, based on lies about WMD
And we'd gladly vote yes, as a bloc, to go to war with Iran today
Cause there ain't no doubt, we're the GOP
We wrecked the U.S.A
From bathroom stalls in Minnesota, to racist ads in Tennessee
From the idiot from Texas, to Rove to Dick Cheney
From our yachts to our mansions, from Wall Street to Santropay
We love to pass the Grey Poupon, so it's time we stand and say
That I'm proud to be a Republican, there is no cause greater than me
Don't forget that we sent men to die, based on lies about WMD
And we'd gladly vote yes, as a bloc, to go to war with Iran today
Cause there ain't no doubt, we're the GOP
We wrecked the U.S.A
